1. Aurora Internship Program – Winter 2015

The Aurora Internship Program introduces law students and graduates (including mature aged) to career opportunities in native title, policy development, research and social justice, all with an Indigenous focus.

Applications for the winter 2015 round of internships will be accepted online via our website between 9am AEST Monday 2nd March through to 5pm AEST Friday 27th March 2015.

2. Foreign Law Clerks, Constitutional Court of South Africa

The Justices of the Constitutional Court of South Africa are pleased to invite applications from outstanding recent law graduates and young lawyers interested in serving as foreign law clerks. Candidates may be appointed to start as soon as 1 April 2015.

Applications for the first round of 2015 hiring will be accepted from 1 February to 31 March 2015. Applicants should propose start dates that would begin prior to December 2016.

1. Victorian Association of Dispute Resolution, CPD Event, Geoff Browne: Overview of the ADR jurisdiction of the Small Business Commissioner

Date: Tuesday 10 March, 2015
Time: 5.45pm for 6.15pm start
Location: Coopers Inn (2nd floor), cnr Exhibition and Little Lonsdale Streets
Cost: Free to current VADR members, $20 for non-members. Finger food is provided. Drinks are available at the bar.

You are invited to a VADR CPD presentation where the Small Business Commissioner, Geoff Browne, will speak about the ADR jurisdiction of his Office.

Topics covered will include activity levels and outcomes, the impact of recent changes to legislation, and the policy commitments of the new Victorian Government.  Geoff will also discuss the approach used for mediator appointment and comment on mediation styles as well as the Mediation Agreement used for all mediations conducted through his Office, and issues that have emerged. Some case studies of mediation outcomes and issues arising will also be presented.

2015 Palestine Works Law Fellowship ( May – August 2015)

Palestine Works is a new US-based non-profit founded by diaspora Palestinians to promote Palestinian human development.

The Law Fellowship empowers law students and recent law graduates to protect human rights and promote development among Palestinians in occupied Palestine and Israel. The 23 Law Fellows in our 2014 class volunteered over 9,000 hours of legal support to our partner organizations and the Palestinian communities they serve.

1. Applications now open for JD Professional Practice Unit LAW 5050

Due to popular demand we will be offering two clinics commencing on 7 May 2015 at the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service for JD students.

Interested JD students can apply now for the Professional Practice Unit LAW5050 (JD elective).

This unit provides students with the opportunity to obtain hands-on practical experience through the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service located at 60 Beddoe Avenue, Clayton (right next to the Clayton campus).

Developed more than 30 years ago, the Monash Law clinical legal education program for students was the first of its kind in Australia.

Under expert supervision, students are provided with the opportunity to work in a busy community legal service under professional supervision. Students work with real clients and cases, learning vital skills relating to the practice of law while providing an important service to the community.

The JD Trimester 1 discontinuation dates for withdrawn early are as follows:

  • LAW5000 Australian legal reasoning and methods – 9 February 2015
  • LAW5001 Principles of criminal law and procedure – 12 February 2015

All other JD Core units – 2 February 2015

    3. Summer Semester Student Evaluation of Teaching and Units (SETU)  survey dates

    Please note the following dates for the SETU surveys over the Summer Semester – your teachers should remind you to complete the online SETU surveys before the closing date  and hopefully  give you some time in class to do this – it won’t take more than 10 minutes or so.

    The University will send reminders to  you to complete the SETU surveys until you have completed the surveys for ALL the Units in which  you  are enrolled.

    • T3-58 Units- already been evaluated as part of the S2 SETU survey – this affects some  LLM, JD and 3 Prof Prac Units
    • T4-57 Units – already been  evaluated as part of the S2 SETU survey –this affects some  LLM Units
