1. Monash Law Running Club

The Monash Law Running Club is back again for Semester 2.

If you are looking to get fit, improve your health and wellbeing or would like to catch up with your fellow law buddies then come along to our running sessions.

Whether you are a seasoned runner or a complete beginner we cater for all abilities and no one gets left behind!

2. Schwarzman Scholarship

Designed to prepare young leaders to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century.

Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.

Students pursue a Masters in Global Affairs, working with an academic advisor to design an academic plan that best suits his or her academic and professional goals.

Students spend a year immersed in an international community of thinkers, innovators and senior leaders in business, politics and society. In an environment of intellectual engagement, professional development and cultural exchange, they learn from one another and pursue their academic disciplines while building their leadership capacities.

3. Indigenous Telstra Graduate Opportunity

Telstra are recruiting an Indigenous graduate commercial lawyer for a February 2020 start in Sydney.

This role would suit an Indigenous student who has recently graduated (with 0-12 months PQE) or a student who will graduate at the end of 2019.

Some of the features of the role include:

3-year fixed-term Telstra contract

First 9-12 months on secondment to Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney as part of our graduate program, working in our Corporate Advisory group in Sydney.

3. Community expectations and FOI – are they at odds?

International Right to Know Day raises awareness of the importance of open and accountable government and the community’s right to access government held information.

At this important public forum, join expert guest speakers about whether community expectations of FOI and how the FOI Act is administered are at odds, and if so, how they may be reconciled.

5. National Commercial Law Seminar – Recent Developments in Misleading and Unconscionable Conduct

The expert panel will discuss recent appellate authorities on misleading or deceptive conduct and statutory unconscionable conduct, including ASIC v Kobelt (High Court) and ACCC v Medibank (Full Federal Court). This seminar will provide an insight into the presenters’ differing perspectives – academic, corporate lawyer and regulatory lawyer.

6. Are you hoping to be admitted to legal practice?

The Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLABwill visit Monash Law Chambers (CBD) to speak about admission to the Supreme Court of Victoria, with a particular emphasis on key disclosure requirements and satisfying the Board that you are a fit and proper person to be admitted to the legal profession.

This is an important event for all law students and you should try to attend if you are able. The presentation will take 50 minutes, inclusive of question time.

The VLAB presenters will be The Hon. David Habersberger QC (VLAB Deputy Chairman) and Mrs Deborah Jones (VLAB CEO).
