2. King’s Student Law Review (King’s College London) – call for submissions

Submissions are welcome from all current Law students for the upcoming issue of the King’s Student Law Review.

The KSLR is a King’s College London publication, completely edited by students.

Whether you’re a Law student at undergraduate or postgraduate level, you are invited to submit an article of between 5,000 to 7,000 words by Sunday 30 April 2017.

3. Volunteer Opportunities at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service

Applications for volunteer positions at the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service open on Monday 27 February 2017.

Law students are rostered to volunteer on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights to be part of a team that provides advice to clients experiencing a range of legal problems, including divorce and intervention orders and general legal issues.

1. ALDI Graduate Program

ALDI are currently recruiting 16 graduates nationally for the newly launched 2018 Graduate Program – applications are closing 31 March 2017.

ALDI’s 18 month Graduate Program, with a February 2018 start, allows graduates to rotate through all aspects of the business and develop their leadership skills. At the end of the program, graduates take on the role of Area Manager, running 3-5 stores in a multi-million dollar business as if it was their own.

4. Internship opportunity: Corporate Social Responsibility and Climate Change

The Centre for Policy Development has an internship opportunity available for an enthusiastic Monash law student to work under the supervision of the Dean of Monash Law, Professor Bryan Horrigan, members of the Centre for Policy Development, and senior lawyers and business leaders.

The Law Society of NSW has launched a nation-wide new law-specifics jobs portal for law students and graduates, called LegalVitae today.

This portal is free for students and will provide an exhaustive list of internship, clerkship, graduate employment and other opportunities across Australia.

8. LIV Young Lawyers event: Your Career Pathways, Options and Opportunities

Law students, graduates and new solicitors are invited to learn about various paths available to those who are beginning a career in the law or still determining their career direction.

Explore the options available to you, whether you are still studying your law degree or have been practising a few years and are looking to set some career goals. There are many ways to use your law degree and the best choice for you may surprise you.

1. International LLM opportunity – Tel Aviv University Faculty of Law

You are invited to apply for the Parasol Foundation Trust International LL.M Program at Tel Aviv University Faculty of Law for the academic year 2017-2018.

Students can choose a general course of study or may specialise in:

Applicants to the International LL.M. must have completed an undergraduate degree in law (LL.B., JD, and Bachelor of Laws) prior to starting the LL.M. degree. Students in their final year of first degree studies may apply, and will be accepted on the condition they finish their first degree in good standing (above 80/100).

2. Italy research scholarships – International Institute for the Unification of Private Law

The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law invites applications for its research scholarships. These support top-level lawyers wishing to conduct research in the fields of uniform or comparative private law.

Postgraduate law students, academics, government officials with a good working knowledge of English or French may apply. Special attention will be given to applicants from developing and emerging economies.

Scholarships last for six weeks to two months. Between 15 and 20 scholarships are awarded each year. Funding will cover all or part of the cost of living expenses in Rome, Italy.

3. Rotary Foundation Postgraduate Scholarships

The Rotary Foundation is offering one Victorian graduate support to complete international study at the graduate level through the Global Postgraduate Scholarship program. Applications close Saturday 18 March 2017.

The successful applicant will go on to further study relating to one of Rotary’s six areas of focus:

  • Peace and conflict prevention and/or resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment

1. The Future of Elder Mediation

Dr. Anita Frayman will speak on the topic: The Future of Elder Mediation.

With the ageing of the population, the use of elder mediation is a growing rapidly. In this presentation Dr Frayman will distinguish elder mediation from other types of mediation, highlighting how intergenerational conflict may lead to elder abuse. She will discuss both the traditional role of the elder mediator in facilitating this support and the way she sees the role developing in the future.

Dr Anita Frayman practises as an elder mediator, facilitator, coach and aged care consultant, assisting older people and their families manage and avoid family conflict and elder abuse. She teaches ADR and presents seminars to industry and community groups.

Dr Frayman is an adjunct researcher at Monash University, a nationally accredited mediator and qualified lawyer with a PhD on cultural diversity and ageing.

1. Prosecuting Ned Kelly: a free talk at the Old Treasury Building

Discover the factors that led Ned Kelly to be charged with the murders of Constables Lonigan and Scanlan.

From the perspective of the prosecution we can see how the case against Kelly was developed and delivered.

The talk will involve a short performance based on the actual trial of Kelly. Patrick Watt reflects on Charles Smythe, police prosecutor against Ned Kelly and examines the case against Kelly.

3. Monash University Law Review Editorial Committee Applications Now Open

Applications are open for places on the Editorial Committee of the Monash University Law Review for 2017.

The Review is the flagship academic publication of the Faculty of Law. It is managed by a student editorial team, with the assistance of faculty advisers. The editorial team undertakes a range of tasks, such as copy-editing, managing correspondence, and arranging production of the Review. The Editorial Committee in particular mainly undertakes the editing of articles in accordance with the AGLC, collation and review of sources, and proofreading. Involvement with the Review provides students with valuable practical skills in legal research, writing and editing, and is highly regarded by law firms and other potential employers.

If you would like to apply to join the Editorial Committee, please send your CV, covering letter, and unofficial academic transcript to law.review@monash.edu by Friday 10 February 2017 with the subject line ‘2017 Committee Application’. Your cover letter should outline your reasons for applying and your suitability for the role. Please also include your expected graduation date. Applicants with at least one full year of study remaining will be preferred.

5. Youthlaw volunteer applications now open

Youthlaw is a community legal centre which provides free legal advice to young people under 25 years old. Youthlaw runs a comprehensive volunteer program and takes on new volunteers annually.

Applications for the annual intake of volunteers are open now until 5.00pm on Friday 17 February 2017.

3. Internship Opportunity in Rome, Italy

The four week internship with Studio Legale Delfino e Associati Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, an international law firm in Rome, will run between March and the end of July 2017, with the final start and end dates to be negotiated with the student and the firm.

Subject to eligibility, Faculty funding will be available for the successful applicant from the Law Faculty’s Student Mobility Fund.  For further information on the funding criteria and the application process, please see the internship website.
