1. Faculty Managed Internship Opportunity – Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) Internship

Applications are now open and close Thursday 14 April 2016 for a three month internship from September to November 2016.

2. Internship Opportunity – International Bar Association, London

The International Bar Association, London are looking for a strong candidate as the IBA Human Rights Institute’s Communications intern working from Tuesday 5 April until Friday 1 July 2016.

Skills and experience required:

  • undergraduate degree (Media, social science or related field);
  • demonstrated desire to work in a media, communications role;
  • excellent research and analytical skills;
  • sound experience in writing/editing documents,  excellent verbal and written communications skills,  with experience synthesizing complex messages for a variety of audiences;
  • IT literate with knowledge of web and social media, ideally with experience of using Content Management Systems;
  • creative thinker with a flexible approach to working;
  • commitment to the aims and objectives of IBAHRI; and
  • fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic an asset.

Day to day work may include:

  • researching and drafting country-specific, media background reports for IBAHRI projects;
  • media monitoring and press summaries;
  • drafting press releases, e-newsletters and other communications materials;
  • compiling media and other contact lists;
  • proofreading and copy-editing IBAHRI communications;
  • monitoring and recording press coverage;
  • monitoring and reporting on web and social media activity;
  • and supporting IBAHRI events.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for funding from the IBA’s Educational Trust. This is a 13 week unpaid internship.

3. King’s College London Pathway Opportunity

Would you like to graduate with a qualification from Monash University and King’s College London?

The Faculty of Law offers a pathway opportunity to study the Master of Laws (LLM) at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London (King’s) for outstanding Monash students enrolled in either:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB); or
  • Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) (JD).

If successful, you will begin your studies at King’s in September/October.  At that time you must have no more than four (4) elective units left to complete in your Monash qualification.

4. Monash University Law Review Editorial Committee Applications Now Open

The Monash University Law Review is the flagship academic journal of the Monash Law School. It is highly regarded by the legal profession and across international law schools. The 2016 Editors and Faculty Advisors are accepting applications from current LLB and JD students to join the Editorial Committee for 2016.

Committee members will be required to complete 3-4 partial edits of an article during the course of the year. The time commitment per article is approximately 10 hours. Training will be provided to all new committee members. Applicants with at least one full year of study remaining will be preferred.

To apply to join the committee please send your CV, cover letter and latest unofficial academic transcript (including Semester 2 2015 results for LLB students, and Trimester 3 results for JD students) to law.review@monash.edu with the subject line ‘2016 Committee Application’. Your cover letter should outline your reasons for applying and suitability for the role. Please also include your expected graduation date.

Applications will close Monday 8 February 2016 at 5pm.

Students will be notified if they have progressed to the next stage of the application process — an editing exercise — shortly following the close of applications.

5. Volunteers wanted at Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service

Have you undertaken professional practice at MOLS or FLAP?

If so, MOLS is currently recruiting volunteer mentors for both the Tuesday and Wednesday evening volunteer programs.

The Tuesday evening program is a Family Law service providing advice to members of the community in relation to divorce, children and intervention orders. MOLS is seeking students who have undertaken professional practice at FLAP or volunteered for at FLAP for an extended period of time to volunteer as a mentor on Tuesday evening.

The Wednesday evening program is a generalist service which provides advice to members of the community in relation to a range of issues including infringements, minor criminal matters, debts and neighbourhood disputes.

MOLS is seeking students who have undertaken professional practice at MOLS to volunteer as a mentor on a Wednesday evening.

As a mentor in both the Wednesday and Tuesday program you will be responsible for interviewing clients, preparing file notes and working alongside other students who have limited experience in client interviews. The service is overseen by volunteer supervising solicitors who will provide the advice.

You will be required to attend the service on a fortnightly basis from 6:00pm – 8:30pm (approx.)
