1. The L Card
You may be wondering what the new card you received with your membership keyring is.
It is an exciting new initiative with all Victorian LSSs to create one discount card to be used across Melbourne.
On Clayton campus, the card is accepted at Artichoke & Whitebait and Taste Baguette for a 10% discount.

2. Law Council of Australia Scholarships 2016: Business Law
Each year the Business Law Section offers three scholarships of $5000 to the writer of the best papers in fields of Competition, Corporations and Taxation Law.
The scholarships are targeted to ‘early career’ legal professionals with less than four years of professional experience in the legal field of their paper. In the past winners have come from across academia, business and government sectors.
These scholarships are well suited to any Honours or research student who has previously written on a topic in one of the available fields.

3. Leap into Leadership Online
Leap into Leadership Online is a suite of free modules to develop your employability and leadership skills at your own pace. It’s available for all current Monash students, any time – so you can complete as many modules as you like, at any stage of your studies.
Each module is practical, straightforward and fun, and takes about one to two hours to complete. There are no formal assessments to hand in, and you’ll earn a certificate for each module.
So, whether you want to hone your skills in communication, managing events or projects, teamwork or goal-setting, check out the modules on offer and get started today.

1. Expert Panel Seminar Series
This series will allow penultimate students to hear from partners from two different practise areas: Transactional and Advisory and Litigation.
The panels will involve a one hour question and answer format with the chance to mingle afterwards.
The Corporate Transaction Law seminar will attended by Ashurst, Corrs Chambers Westgarth and King & Wood Mallesons.

3. The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017 Graduate Programme
Applications for the 2017 Graduate Programme with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet are now open.

The Graduate Programme is a two year, structured, on-the-job development programme that provides you with the support, opportunities and challenges you need to kick start your career in the Australian Public Service (APS).
Roles are primarily located in Canberra however opportunities may also be available in the Regional Network.
Graduates are anticipated to commence work in February 2017.

Competitions
1. HSF-NLUD International Negotiation Competition (INC)
INC is a competition organised by Herbert Smith Freehills and National Law University Delhi.
The first edition of the competition took place in 2014 and it was a big hit.
The second edition, which was held in September 2015, drew participants from 23 internationally renowned universities from five countries, including the likes of Cambridge, Oxford, Sydney, Melbourne, Hong Kong and Cologne.
The competition aims at providing an opportunity to law students of select top universities across the globe to practice and improve their negotiation skills. It provides a platform for students to compete in a truly diverse and an international environment. The competition is carefully structured to simulate legal negotiations particularly for those students who aspire to be international lawyers.
Students participating in the competition will assume the roles of international lawyers in negotiating a series of legal problems. The problems will be based on real life examples and will comprise a common set of facts known to all participants and confidential information known only to the participants representing a particular side.
Each team will consist of two students, who must be enrolled in a full time degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) as at September 1 2016. Only one team per university will be allowed. The competition will begin 15 June (release of the problem), with the finals being 11 September 2016 and held in Delhi.

1. Charity Dinner Ticket Sales
2016 sees the return of Charity Dinner, supporting the Tristan Jepson Foundation.
Speakers will include Marie Jepson, co-founder of the Tristan Jepson Foundation, and Prerna Diksha, who is a Board Member on the Australians for Mental Health Organisation.
Fulton Street will also be performing! All profits made will be donated to the Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation.

Social Justice & Equity
1. Clayton Utz Diversity Lecture
Clayton Utz will be hosting the inaugural Diversity Lecture at its Melbourne office this May.
This year, members of the CU LGBTI Alliance will present the lecture which will focus on the current legal framework concerning children hoping to transition and how it could be improved.
As you may know, a key concern for these children and their families is the requirement for court approval before being able to undergo treatment. The lecture will address this and other issues.
The idea to host the lecture is borne out of CU’s desire to connect more with uni students, its prospective employees, by showing them its interest in and commitment to issues affecting groups which make its workplace a diverse and enriched environment. The CU LGBTI program, the LGBTI Alliance, is the mechanism through which the firm seeks to ensure that it has a culture of inclusion.

2. Just Leadership Program Applications: open now
The prestigious Just Leadership Program (JLP), in its 7th year in 2016, is a program open to all undergraduate and post-graduate law students.
The program runs in Semester 2, and comprises of 11 seminars with Q&A panels. Topics include, among others: Environmental Justice, Mental Health & Physical Disability, Asylum Seekers’ Rights, Indigenous Access to Justice, and – NEW in 2016 – Animal Law.
Participants gain access to incredible speakers from various legal professions.
Past speakers include: the Honourable Michael Kirby AC, Christine Milne (former Senator and Greens leader), Rob Hulls (former Attorney-General of Victoria), and Julian Burnside AO QC (human rights advocate).
Participants also have the opportunity to work in small groups to produce a project in an area of social justice law. In the past, project groups have written blogs, made submissions to parliamentary inquiries and the Victorian Law Reform Commission, and published public policy articles.
