A one-day conference bringing together judges, practitioners and scholars at the Victoria State Library, to consider, what the principle of legality means, when and why antipodean courts invoke it, its impact on drafting legislation and where it is leading our public law.

The Communications and Media Law Association (CAMLA) essay competition to be held over the summer of 2014-15.
The competition has been staged very successfully for a number of years and CAMLA is again offering a prize of $1,000 and a 1-year CAMLA membership.
The winning essay may also be published in CAMLA’s Communications Law Bulletin and will be awarded at a CAMLA function to be held in early 2015.
It’s a terrific opportunity for students and we would be grateful if you could draw the competition to the attention of anyone who may be interested.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage high quality work in undergraduate and post-graduate communications and media law courses
and to improve links between those studying and those practising in the area.
The prize will be given for a previously unpublished essay of between 1,000 and 3,000 words on a subject relating to communications or media law.
Entries close on Wednesday 14 January, 2015.

The Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School has announced the 2015 Summer Human Rights Institute (SHRI), to be held from Monday 20 until Friday 31 July, 2015 at Fordham Law School, Lincoln Center, New York City.
The SHRI is a two-week certificate program offering a comprehensive introduction to the theory and application of human rights law. The Institute provides an overview of international law, as well as focused human rights subject lectures, workshops and fieldwork, with Fordham Law faculty and attorneys in public and private practice here in New York. Suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as advanced professionals, the SHRI is open to participants from around the world. All courses and activities are conducted in English — no language assessment is required — and the Center will work with participants to secure necessary visas and other arrangements, as needed.
Participants who register by Wednesday 28 January, 2015 will receive a reduced tuition fee of $1700, which covers approximately 60 hours of instruction, course materials, lunch on most weekdays, and extracurricular activities. Limited on-campus housing is also available for an additional $1400 (this must be booked by Wednesday 28 January, 2015).

Allocate+ for Trimester 1 2015 JD core units will be opened at 12 pm on Friday 21 November, 2014. Due to the set size of each class, once a stream is full there are no more places available. There are a few items to note:
The Law School will be offering the subject LAW5448 – Copyright x: Monash in conjunction with the Harvard Law School. The subject commences late January 2015 and is open as an elective for JD and Masters students. The subject can also be undertaken by non-Monash students as a single subject or as a cross-institutional subject.
Students will be required to view each week a video lecture by Prof William Fisher of the Harvard Law School. He will be concurrently teaching the subject to his Harvard law students, as well as offering the subject as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and as a subject taught in conjunction with Monash Law School. Monash students will also be required to attend a seminar held on Tuesday evenings, which will be convened by Dr George Raitt.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law will award three Global Scholarships in the academic year 2015 – 2016 to students from all over the world to study in one of the LLM Programmes below. Each Global Scholarship is worth up to a maximum of HK$181,120 (approx. US$24,500). If awarded, a full Global Scholarship covers the tuition fee of HK$111,120 (approx. US$14,240) as well as a living stipend of HK$80,000 (approx. US$10,260).

Ashurst is running its Monash/Ashurst Corporate Governance and Responsibility Clinic again in first semester 2015. The Monash/Ashurst Clinic is a Clinical Externship unit that offers four students practical experience (under Ashurst supervision) assisting small/mid-cap ASX listed companies with corporate governance issues.

Students now have the opportunity to work with judges and other judicial staff at the Supreme Court of Victoria in a new externship program in 2015! This externship is offered under the new unit – LAW4803: Clinical Externship.
Places are very limited and entry will involve an interview with a law school staff member and a staff member from the Supreme Court of Victoria
