Kimberley Brownlee an Associate Professor of Legal and Moral Philosophy at the University of Warwick. Prior to this, she was a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Her work focuses on conscience, conviction, civil disobedience, the ethics of sociability, ideals, virtue, practical reason, and human rights. Kimberley holds a BA (First Class Hons.) in Philosophy from McGill University, an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge, and a DPhil in Philosophy from Oxford (Rhodes Scholar).

Professor Frank Bloch Frank S Bloch is Professor of Law Emeritus at Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as Director of Clinical Education and as Director of the Social Justice Program. Currently he serves as Executive Secretary of the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE). Professor Bloch is an internationally prominent expert on legal aid and clinical legal education, as well as social security, disability, and other public benefit programs. He is the author or editor of nine books and has published over 35 articles and book chapters, focusing most recently on the global movement in clinical legal education. He was a Fulbright Professor at Delhi University and has served as a consultant to the International Social Security Association, the Administrative Conference of the United States, the Social Security Advisory Board, and the US Agency for International Development. Before joining the faculty at Vanderbilt, he taught at the University of Chicago Law School and practised law with California Rural Legal Assistance. Professor Bloch is a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance. He holds a BA and a PhD (Politics) from Brandeis University and a JD from Columbia University Law School.
Throughout 2014, the Faculty of Law, in conjunction with the Supreme Court of Victoria, Victorian Bar, Law Institute of Victoria and Judicial College of Victoria, will hold seminars covering current commercial law topics. Kenneth Roth is the executive director of Human Rights Watch, one of the world’s leading international human rights organizations, which operates in more than 90 countries. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch in 1987, Roth served as a federal prosecutor in New York and for the Iran-Contra investigation in Washington, DC. A graduate of Yale Law School and Brown University, Roth has conducted numerous human rights investigations and missions around the world. He has written extensively on a wide range of human rights abuses, devoting special attention to issues of international justice, counterterrorism, the foreign policies of the major powers, and the work of the United Nations.

To enter, students are asked to create a 2 – 5 minute film around legal ethics to educate, entertain and engage other law students.
The winners will be those judged to be the most creative, instructive and original, that helps other students to connect with the study of law.

For the first time in 2014, we are offering a unit designed to give intensive training in advocacy skills, including legal research and drafting techniques, as well as oral argument. This will culminate in a moot court or other advocacy-based competition, in which students will compete on behalf of Monash against teams from other universities.
Every student chosen for this unit will be allocated to a particular competition. Some of these will be held in Melbourne, others interstate and possibly a few overseas. For those students who need to travel for their competition, the airfares and accommodation costs will be covered by the Faculty.
The exact competitions may vary, depending on the subject knowledge of the students enrolled, the dates of the various competitions and other factors.

How to Apply:
Every student will be part of a mooting team as such, places in this unit are strictly limited. Students will be chosen in a competitive application process.
Applications need to be submitted to the Chief Examiner of the unit, Associate Professor Adam McBeth, at adam.mcbeth@monash.edu by 12 noon, Monday 14 April. The application form is available at the resources webpage.
Applications are open to all students currently in their second or subsequent year of their law degree. Preference will generally be given to later year students, although it is expected that some places will be offered to students earlier in their degree.

Allocate+ for Trimester 2 2014 JD core units will be opened at 12pm on Friday 4 April, 2014. Due to the set size of each class, once a stream is full there are no more places available.

JustCite is a multi-jurisdictional case citator, especially useful for the UK, but it also includes a growing number of jurisdictions such as Australia, Canada, Malaysia. It has some great features including precedence maps and links to the full-text judgments. Justis has full-text case law and statutes, including UK Statutes, International Law Reports, British Tax Cases, and Singapore Law Reports.
