2. 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner

Join us at our 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner

Reminisce with friends. Catch up with your former teachers and faculty staff.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of our first intake of students. In March 1964, 150 students arrived at what was then a muddy and less-developed Clayton campus, eager to begin their studies at Victoria’s new Law School.

We have come a long way since those early days. We will celebrate this milestone at a gala dinner in June.

With alumnus, popular ABC Radio host Jon Faine as our Master of Ceremonies, a special welcome from alumna the Hon. Chief Justice Marilyn Warren AC, and the launch of our faculty history by the Hon. Chief Justice Robert French AC – the event is sure to be a night to remember.

Time: 6.30pm – 11.30pm
Date: Saturday 28 June, 2014
Venue: Savoy Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Melbourne, 123 Collins Street, Melbourne
Dress formal (black tie optional)
Tickets $220
Register at the website

The night includes:

Pre-dinner drinks
Three-course meal
Live auction and entertainment
Door prizes

For enquiries please email law-marketing@monash.edu or visit the 50th Anniversary website

3. Governor-General’s Prize

The Governor-General’s Prize is now in its tenth year, and, in addition to awarding over $10,000 in prize money each year, it has earned a reputation as the most prestigious essay competition in Australia.

Every year, the judging panel for the Prize has been chaired by a Justice of the High Court of Australia, and it is a feature of participation in the final round that undergraduates have the opportunity to be interviewed by one of the Justices.

This year, the Prize has been sponsored by Reconciliation Australia, and all of the essay questions are focussed on issues relating to constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians. The questions, and further details, including past entries, may be found on the website.

Students wishing to enter the Prize are required to submit a 2,500 word essay online by Monday 30 June, 2014.

All finalists will be invited to a cocktail reception at the High Court of Australia in Canberra, with the Justices of the Court and other special guests to celebrate the tenth year of the Prize.
