1. Law Week Event – The Importance of Community Legal Centres
Join Professor Jeff Giddings for an open discussion on the importance of community legal centres and how they provide access to the legal system for groups of vulnerable people, such as early school leavers or those experiencing financial disadvantage.
As the Director of the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service Jeff is well versed in helping the community to use the law to protect their rights and broaden their awareness of legal processes. He has been involved in community legal centres in Victoria and Queensland since the 1980s as a student, volunteer, salaried lawyer and management committee member.
Jeff’s research focuses on access to justice, alternative dispute resolution and legal education.

3. International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
Diversity and Inclusion are proud to be celebrating International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) with a week of events and activities (15 – 18 May) in partnership with MSA, MONSU Caulfield, MONSU Peninsula, MPA, MPSU and PPA, across the Caulfield, Clayton, Parkville and Peninsula campuses. We will also be flying the Rainbow flag alongside the national, state, Indigenous and Torres Strait Island flags, for the week.
IDAHOBIT was created in 2004 to highlight the violence and discrimination experienced by the LGBTIQ community internationally. The date, May 17, was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organisation’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.
All members of the Monash community are welcome to attend events throughout the week including free barbeques, free screenings of the recent documentaries Real Boy (2016) and Gayby Baby (2015) documentaries, an afternoon tea celebrating the new all gender toilets at Monash, a flag raising ceremony and more. For the duration of the week we will be exhibiting photos on the Northern Plaza screen that represent this years theme of Families. 6. Talking Justice – Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre Event
Talking Justice returns to the Ulumbarra Theatre for Law Week on 19 – 20 May 2017. 7. The DELINEATOR: Reimagining Access to Justice

She has worked with the United Nations Global Compact, Save The Children, Amnesty International Australia, the International Centre for Advocates Against Discrimination and Kaleidoscope Human Rights Foundation. In her role as the Responsible Business Consultant at Collins, Biggers and Paisley, Justine has provided strategic oversight to her community clients and has contributed to helping many access the justice system.
