Opportunity for 2013-14 American Australian Association-Australian National University Congressional Research Fellowship Program (CRFP), which places high-achieving honours and postgraduate students from the Go8 in the offices of US Senators who serve on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. CRFP Fellows will also be associated with relevant and established think tanks.

1. The Aurora Native Title Internship Program

The Aurora Native Title Internship Program places law, anthropology and other social science (archaeology, cultural heritage, environmental management,  human geography, history and sociology) students and graduates from Australian universities at Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs) and other organisations involved in policy development, social justice, human rights, all with an Indigenous focus.   The program introduces candidates to career opportunities in native title and Indigenous affairs more generally and at the same time provides assistance to under-resourced and over-worked organisations.

The application period for the summer 2013/14 round of internships is open from 9am AEDT Monday 29th July through 5pm AEDT Friday 23rd August 2013.

4. NSW Law Reform Commission – Summer Internships 2013/14

The NSW Law Reform Commission operates a summer internship program for law students in their final year of study, or entering their final year of study in 2014. While this opportunity is unpaid, it does provide access to a range of professional development opportunities including working with our Commissioners. 5. OPP Traineeship Program

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) Legal Traineeship Program offers law graduates a unique opportunity to experience diverse and challenging work that will provide the basis for a rewarding legal career.

Over 12 months legal trainees rotate through the organisation, gaining experience in a broad range of legal practice areas and responsibilities, including preparing legal advice and indictments, and instructing Crown Prosecutors and external counsel.

The Legal Traineeship Program meets the requirements of the Supervised Workplace Traineeship, offering both supervised workplace training and training in the defined competency standards for entry-level lawyers.

To support workplace training, the OPP provides Continuing Legal Education (CLE) through an extensive and comprehensive development program covering relevant aspects of criminal law.

The Legal Traineeship Program for 2014 begins in February.

Applications for the 2013 Legal Traineeship Program close at 11.59pm on Sunday, 18 August 2013.

Your application will consist of three components:

  • your curriculum vitae
  • a certified extract of your academic record
  • a covering letter, including written responses to the following three questions

In your opinion:

  1. What is the importance of committal proceedings, should they be abolished? If so what protections for the accused would be affected?
  2. Why is the Victims Charter significant and what application does it have to the criminal process?
  3. Why is it important to negotiate pleas of guilty in criminal prosecutions, and how can this be balanced with current community expectations?

Responses to each of these questions should be limited to no more than 300 words.

Applications must be submitted online at www.careers.vic.gov.au.

PLEASE NOTE:

Only law (Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor) graduates who have not previously been admitted to practice are eligible to be considered for legal traineeships. The OPP will also not be considering applications from those who have completed, or are currently undertaking their Practical Legal Training (PLT) coursework.

Students will be able to select from a range of units taught in English. Exchange to China allows students to explore the culture and history of China and to enhance their employment prospects, with China one of Australia’s key trading partners and influential global economic power.

Every student receives:
· $2,500  Monash Abroad Travel Scholarship
· Monash University comprehensive travel Insurance coverage

Students may also be eligible for:
· $5,000 AsiaBound Scholarship
· $7,500 OS-HELP loan up to
· $1,000 OS-HELP loan for language preparation

2. Session for 3rd and Final Year Law Students

The TAC would cordially like to invite 3rd & final year Law Students to attend an Information Session for the Legal Seasonal Clerkship for 2013/2014 and Legal Graduate Traineeship for 2014.
