1. Deacons’ Winter Vacation Student Programme 2013

Law students who have a keen interest in pursuing a legal career in Hong Kong are invited to apply for Deacons’ Winter Placement 2013. The deadline for application is 1 October 2012.

The Vacation Student Programme is opened to penultimate year law students from universities in a Common law jurisdiction with a view to applying for a trainee solicitor position in Hong Kong. We also welcome non-law students who have taken the Graduate Diploma in Law (Common Professional Examination) in the UK or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Hong Kong or Australia to apply.

Deacons’ Vacation Student Programme is highly regarded and considered a real first step towards a successful legal career. Most of the trainees first joined us as vacation students. The programme provides a series of orientations and training activities as well as work placements. You will also participate in many team events and community programme as well as social gatherings that help to bond us together. There are ample opportunities for you to shine.

2. UN Youth Victoria

UN Youth Victoria is currently accepting applications for Victorian Conference 2013 committee positions. Held in March each year, the Victorian Conference attracts student leaders in years 10-12 from across the state, and features international affairs-themed educational workshops, guest speakers, leadership activities and Model United Nations debates. It is run entirely by volunteers under 25.

3. Legal Associate Roles

The Family Court of Australia is recruiting Legal Associates to commence in 2013 and in 2014 to work closely with Family Court Judges on legal research and advice, assistance with judgment writing, editing and attendance in Court.

A detailed Position Description is contained here for your information. The Court invites applications from Honours grade students for recruitment and commencement in early 2013 or commencement in 2014. Please indicate your preferred year of commencement in your application.

The role requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to work to a high standard. 4. Legal Traineeships 2013

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) Legal Traineeship Program offers law graduates a unique opportunity to experience diverse and challenging work that will provide the basis for a rewarding legal career. Over 12 months legal trainees rotate through the organisation, gaining experience in a broad range of legal practice areas and responsibilities, including preparing legal advice and indictments, and instructing Crown Prosecutors and external counsel.

5. Paralegal Position

A Melbourne barrister is seeking a law student, in his or her third year or above, to work as researcher and administrative support for two days per week, starting as soon as possible.

Tasks will include legal research, particularly on labour law, discrimination and employment contract law. Administrative functions will also be required, including assisting the barrister in running his business. IT skills and advanced research skills are necessary. The tasks are likely to be a mix of the incredibly interesting and the mundane. The position would suit a progressive student able to work independently and with initiative.

The position is for two days per week, which can be spread over three days. Hours are flexible to suit lecture timetables and any family responsibilities. Additional time off is available during exam periods. The position is based in Owen Dixon Chambers and would best suit a person studying at the city campus.

1. Castan Centre Internships

The Castan Centre is again offering a number of outstanding internship opportunities to Monash Law students with a strong interest in human rights. The placements differ in duration from six weeks to four months and will take place either during the end of year break or in first semester 2013. Each intern will be provided with assistance from the Student Mobility Fund and Castan Centre Global Internship Fund to assist with travel and accommodation expenses. During the session, students will be provided with information on each of the internships, the selection criteria, timelines for the application process and hear past interns’ experiences.
