1. Clerkship Opportunities at Linklaters Hong Kong

Online applications are now being accepted for the Linklaters Hong Kong 2013 Summer Vacation Scheme as well as the 2015 Training Contract conducted in September 2015.

2. King & Wood Mallesons Insight Program

What is Insight?
This program offers students a unique insight into our day-to-day operations and an opportunity to network with lawyers and partners.

Who should apply?
The program is aimed at law students who are not yet able to apply for a summer clerkship (i.e. 3rd year or equivalent). If you are eligible for a clerkship this year but are unable to participate (e.g. overseas exchange) and would like to participate in Insight or discuss alternative clerkship options, please contact us.

What will I do in Insight?
The program consists of 4 sessions at our offices in Bourke Place.

8 August 2012 – The Global Legal Market
This session will give you an introduction into what’s happening in the changing Global Legal Market and what impact it has on graduates.

12 September 2012 – Legal Practice at King & Wood Mallesons
This session will give you a high level overview of how our firm is structured, what areas of law we practise and the type of clients we work with.

5 December 2012 – Skills Based Session
The skills based session will provide you with practical skills to assist you now and in your legal career.

April/May 2013 – Shadow a Lawyer
What is it really like to work in commercial law? By spending time with one of our lawyers you will gain a real insight into the type of work we do.

2. Castan Center In-house Internships-Applications Now Open

The in-house internship program gives Monash Law students who are interested and passionate about human rights the opportunity to become involved in the work of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law. Interns will have the opportunity to assist in a variety of programs. These could include; research and writing on human rights projects, writing articles for the Castan Centre newsletter, and assisting with public education events such as lectures and the annual human rights conference.

Applications for second semester must be submitted by 5pm Friday 25 May 2012. There will not be interviews for the internships and students are expected to write a cover letter of no more than one page. Details of selection criteria and the application process are available on the Castan Centre website.

Students may apply for the following intake: Part-Time Internships – Semester 2, 2012.

Students can intern 1 day per week for 11 weeks over the second. Internship dates for Semester 2, 2012 will be between 23 July and 19 October.

3. Paralegal Position

Ascot Solicitors is rapidly expanding. We offer services in commercial, property, family and criminal law. Your responsibilities will include assisting our lawyer in drafting documents and correspondence, legal research, court filing, file management and general office duties. Exceptional fluency in English spelling and grammar is required.

Individuals seeking exposure to a range of challenging matters, and would enjoy working as part of a dynamic legal team are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will commence shortly on a casual basis. Flexible arrangements can be discussed.

2. Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Program (UCWIP)

The Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Program (UCWIP) gives Australian students the opportunity to intern with offices of the United States Congress in Washington DC. The internship is 8-9 weeks long and commences in early-January to early-March.

UCWIP interns have the rare opportunity to work in environments such as Republican and Democratic offices and the House and the Senate. During the program interns are typically encouraged to attend hearings and press conferences, go to briefings at the US State Department and Australian Embassy and attend field trips to significant locations such as Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.

Successful applicants must enrol in either Research Unit A LAW4173 or Research Unit B LAW4174 with your faculty as you must receive credit towards your degree for this internship as it is a requirement of your visa.
