1. Applications still open for JD Professional Practice LAW 5050

Applications are still open for the Professional Practice Elective Unit which takes place at Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service, Clayton.

Applications for Clinical Period 3 (Group A & B- 14 May 2015- 13 August 2015 & 18 May 2015- 13 August 2015) close on 17 April 2015.

Applications are not done on Wes.

1. Applications now open for JD Professional Practice Unit LAW 5050

Due to popular demand we will be offering two clinics commencing on 7 May 2015 at the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service for JD students.

Interested JD students can apply now for the Professional Practice Unit LAW5050 (JD elective).

This unit provides students with the opportunity to obtain hands-on practical experience through the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service located at 60 Beddoe Avenue, Clayton (right next to the Clayton campus).

Developed more than 30 years ago, the Monash Law clinical legal education program for students was the first of its kind in Australia.

Under expert supervision, students are provided with the opportunity to work in a busy community legal service under professional supervision. Students work with real clients and cases, learning vital skills relating to the practice of law while providing an important service to the community.

1. Allocate+ JD Core Units Trimester 1, 2015

Allocate+ for Trimester 1 2015 JD core units will be opened at 12 pm on Friday 21 November, 2014. Due to the set size of each class, once a stream is full there are no more places available.  There are a few items to note:

  • Students are required to complete the self-allocation by Friday 19 December, 2014and auto allocation into available streams will be made thereafter for those who have not allocated themselves.  Please note that elective units do not need to be allocated.
  • Please refer to the Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) timetables prior to allocation to ensure you have the latest version.
  • Should you wish to request for a stream change, you may submit a Changing seminar streams or tutorial group application form (doc, 73kb) form to law-pgstudents@monash.edu only after Friday 19 December, 2014.  We will not be managing change stream requests when Allocate+ is open as there is still movement in the streams during this time.  Please make sure that all sections of the form are completed and supporting documentation attached.

2. LAW5448 – Copyright x: Monash

The Law School will be offering the subject LAW5448 – Copyright x: Monash in conjunction with the Harvard Law School. The subject commences late January 2015 and is open as an elective for JD and Masters students. The subject can also be undertaken by non-Monash students as a single subject or as a cross-institutional subject.

Students will be required to view each week a video lecture by Prof William Fisher of the Harvard Law School. He will be concurrently teaching the subject to his Harvard law students, as well as offering the subject as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and as a subject taught in conjunction with Monash Law School. Monash students will also be required to attend a seminar held on Tuesday evenings, which will be convened by Dr George Raitt.

3. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Master of Laws (LLM) Programmes Global Scholarships

The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law will award three Global Scholarships in the academic year 2015 – 2016 to students from all over the world to study in one of the LLM Programmes below. Each Global Scholarship is worth up to a maximum of HK$181,120 (approx. US$24,500). If awarded, a full Global Scholarship covers the tuition fee of HK$111,120 (approx. US$14,240) as well as a living stipend of HK$80,000 (approx. US$10,260).

  • LLM in International Economic Law
  • LLM in Chinese Business Law
  • LLM in Common Law

Application deadline is Friday 27 February, 2015.
