PILCH is please to invite Monash law students to the public launch event of the inaugural the Australian Symposium for Advocacy-Health Alliances, being held in Melbourne, Victoria on Thursday 15th November 2012.
The event will feature internationally renowned guest speakers:
- Dr Edward Paul, Director of Graduate Medical Education at Yuma Regional Medical Centre, National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership Transitional Board of Directors;
- Elizabeth Tobin-Tyler, Director of Public Service & Community Partnerships and Lecturer in Public Law at Roger Williams University School of Law, National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership Transitional Board of Directors;
- Prof. Pascoe Pleasence, Professor of Empirical Legal Studies at the University College London;
- Peter Noble, Clayton Utz Foundation Fellow, Coordinator of Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre.
- Christine Coumarelos, Law and Justice Foundation.
Medical Legal Partnerships feature three core activities: providing legal assistance in the healthcare setting, transforming health and legal institutions and their practices, and influencing policy change. In Australia, MLP is in its infancy. However, there are already several examples of legal services provided in partnership with health services and an emerging interest in adopting and adapting the MLP model for the Australian context.

Please note that there is an additional Clerkship skills tune-up session available on the 13th November 2.00 – 4.00 pm in at the Law Chambers. Undergraduate and postgraduate students may attend. Bookings are now available via the online class booking system.
Improve your legal research and writing skills for your clerkship or traineeship in this hands-on session. Practise these skills and hear Clerkship experiences. This session has been designed to refine skills which will assist during your clerkship and includes research and writing exercises and transition to work. Law firms use clerkships to identify students to take into their traineeship program.

1. 2013 Legal Internships
ABC Legal Services is offering a limited number of unpaid Legal internships to students who need to undertake practical experience in order to be admitted to practice as lawyers.
The following internships will be available:
- Monday 11 February – Friday 23 March (6 weeks)
- Monday 25 March – Friday 3 May (6 weeks)
- Monday 6 May – Friday 14 June (6 weeks)
- Monday 17 June – Friday 26 July (6 weeks)
- Monday 29 July – Friday 30 August (5 weeks)
- Monday 2 September – Friday 4 October (5 weeks)
- Tuesday 8 October – Friday 8 November (5 weeks)
- Monday 11 November – Friday 13 December (5 weeks)

1. 2013 Re-enrolment
Re-enrolment for 2013 commenced on 8 October and ends on 19 November 2012. Students may re-enrol via WES for the 2013 academic year during the re-enrolment period. If you have not re-enrolled by 19 November 2012 you may do so between the 20 November to 14 December 2012 but a $289 late fee will be applied. Please see the Re-enrolment webpage for further information.
2. Assessment Coversheet
Assessment submission must include an assessment coversheet which can be found here. Ensure that that the assessment coversheet is also uploaded on Moodle when submitting your assessment.
3. JD 2013 T1 Allocate+ Opening Date and Exam Timetable
JD T1 2013 examination timetable will be released on the Faculty website on Monday 10 December.
Allocate+ will be open for self-allocation for Trimester 1 2013 JD core units on Monday 10 December at 12pm (except for LAW7470* & LAW7264*).
Students are required to complete the self-allocation online by 5pm on 3 January 2013. Due to the set size of each class, once a stream is full there are no more places available unless some student comes out. Students who fail to complete the self-allocation will be auto-allocated into any available stream by Friday 4 January 2013.
Students who require to change stream must apply in writing to the Faculty by submitting the Changing seminar streams or tutorial group application form along with the supporting document by Friday 11 January 2013. Late applications or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
*Please note that Allocate+ will be open for LAW7470 & LAW7264 on Monday 7 January at 12pm, students are required to complete the self-allocation by Friday 18 January.
4. New Units Available for 2013
New exciting units have been added for 2013 and they can be viewed online.
