1. Are you ready for a global career?

Contemporary legal practice is no longer limited to the local.

Lawyers now practice in a global context: across jurisdictions, in diverse cultural environments and often mediated by digital technologies.

Against this context this new unit (LAW4250, offered over Summer 2016-17) provides the foundation from which law graduates might take advantage of the increasing opportunities in global legal practice.

Please see here for more details.

1. Summer B elective – Tax Policy Law 4243

Taxation is not a technical matter. It is preeminently a political and philosophical issue, perhaps the most important of all political issues.

Thomas Piketty, Capital in the Twenty First Century (2014), p 493

See what Thomas Picketty is on about this summer (Law 4243, Summer B). In this elective we will look at how the design, interpretation and administration of our tax laws affect the nature of our society.

If you have an interest in politics, economics, justice and the law then an examination of how these questions get played out in our tax laws is a great place to start.

Students are welcome to enrol whether or not they have taken Law 5152 (Taxation Law). Credit given to enrol without all pre-requisites if appropriate.

Enquiries: kathryn.james@monash.edu
