Are you interested in becoming a paid Peer Leader in Australia’s premier academic mentoring program?

The Faculty of Law and The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) are introducing the PASS (Peer Assisted Study Session) Program in support of LAW 2102, CONTRACT B.

PASS is an academic mentoring program which targets key 1st Year units (the “target units”). PASS provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer-facilitated study sessions led by mentors called Peer Leaders for students seeking additional assistance with the target units. PASS is not a remedial program, and all students enrolled in the target units will be encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.

PASS Leaders attend a two-day training program that focuses on how to facilitate group learning, how to conduct sessions and the concepts of promoting a learning community.

PASS sessions will commence in Week 3 of semester and continue until the end of Week 12 (ten weeks). Leaders must be able to complete a two day training program in July prior to the semester beginning.

PASS Leaders are employed by the University, and are paid approximately $120/week during Semester.  It is possible for students to work as PASS Leaders for several semesters, and leadership positions are available for experienced PASS Leaders.

We are looking to recruit students to become PASS Leaders.  The basic criteria fill the leader positions are as follows:

  1. You must have successfully completed at least 48 credit points of study in a Monash bachelor degree.
  2. You must have at least 48 credit points of study required to complete your Monash bachelor degree after Semester 1, 2011.

1. Call for Papers – Federal Law Review

The Zines Prize for Excellence in Legal Research – ANU College of Law

The Federal Law Review is pleased to announce an annual prize to be awarded for excellence in legal research. The prize will be awarded to an author whose is published in the Federal Law Review.

The intention of the prize is to encourage and reward outstanding legal scholarship in Australia and to recognise the many contributions Professor Zines has made to the better understanding of areas of law of interest to the Federal Law Review.

We welcome submissions to: flr.law@anu.edu.au

2. Call for Papers – Law and Its Accidents: Melbourne Doctoral Forum on Legal Theory

Thursday 15 – Friday 16 December, 2011

The fourth annual workshop will again bring together higher research students and early career researchers, who in different disciplines and across diverse fields of scholarship, engage with law and its theoretical and methodological questions.

This year we embark on an investigation of law and its accidents, because to critically engage with legal theory is not only to track the modalities of law, but also to probe its interstices. It is to expose law’s fault-lines and its exceptions, its interruptions and its crises, but also its coincidences and serendipities. This workshop will try not just to prod those fragile points where law buckles and sways, but attempt to build new jurisprudential approaches to understanding the happenstances of law.

Relevant areas of law may include (this list is not exhaustive): law and culture, law and technology, law and the humanities, environmental law, employment law, tort law, international law, military law, migration law, and law and economics.
A limited number of bursaries will be available for interstate and international presenting participants who are unable to claim funding to cover the full cost of travel from their home institution. The bursaries are intended to contribute towards travel expenses. Please indicate in your application whether you would like to be considered for a bursary.

For further information and possible topics please see Law and Its Accidents

Conference Organisers: Jake Goldenfein, Laura Petersen and Marc Trabsky

Send abstracts of 500 words and biographies of 100 words to law-mdflt@unimelb.edu.au by Monday 19 September, 2011.
