1. Castan Centre In-House Internships – Applications Now Open

Position Title: Internship

Duration: Monday 19 July – Friday 15 October, 2010 (twelve weeks). 

Job Description:
The Castan Centre in-house internship program gives Monash Law students who are interested and passionate about human rights the opportunity to become involved in the work of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law.

Interns will have the opportunity to assist in a variety of programs. These could include; research and writing on human rights projects, writing articles for the Castan Centre newsletter, and assisting with public education events such as lectures and the annual human rights conference.

Application Requirements:
There will not be interviews for the internships and students are expected to write a very brief cover letter only (no longer than 1 page).

2. VCLSS Networking Evening

In 2010 the Victorian Council of Law Students’ Societies is hosting its first ever Networking Evening. This event allows students the opportunity to mingle with firm representatives in an informal setting to help with establishing contacts as well as gaining valuable information on what the various firms are looking for in their clerks. 

The event this year is open to all students however it has been particularly tailored towards JD students (recognising a need for careers events held in the CBD, outside of work hours, with sufficient access to firm representatives). I therefore encourage you to consider this opportunity.

1. Appointment of Tipstaff to Justice Allsop, President NSW Court of Appeal

Applications are invited for the position of Tipstaff to Justice Allsop, President of the NSW Court of Appeal. The appointment will commence in late January 2011 for one year. Applicants should be prepared to continue on the staff of the President for the year 2012 as Researcher.

Position Description:
The primary role of Tipstaff is assisting the President with court related duties and research. This includes spending a substantial amount of time in court. In the second year of appointment, the tasks to be performed are research and assistance with administering the work of the Court with infrequent attendance in court.

Now in its third year, the Program has developed into a celebrated vehicle for encouraging the next generation of female lawyers to gain valuable insights into the legal profession from current practitioners.

Wherever possible, each student will be paired with a mentor who shares common professional interests and geographical proximity. Pairs will be expected to meet at least once a month. If there are insufficient mentors to cater for student demand, preference will be given to students in their final or second last year of study. This year’s Program will run from mid-April, 2010 to April, 2011.
